Our Library
A space for learning, community, and the future of Galápagos
The Community Library for Galápagos and the World was founded in 2005 as an initiative of AGIPA (Association of Naturalist Guides of the Galápagos National Park), a nonprofit organization established in 1991 and committed to the development of the local community.
Thanks to a non-reimbursable grant secured through the Embassy of Japan in Ecuador and a partnership with the Municipality of Santa Cruz, the first public library in the Galápagos Islands was built in Puerto Ayora. From the beginning, AGIPA supported its growth by securing donations that made it possible to build a collection of more than 10,000 books, along with technological equipment and furniture to strengthen this space for learning and community engagement.
At the end of 2018, AGIPA resumed the full administration of the Library with a renewed vision: to establish it as an educational, cultural, and community center for Galápagos.
Today, the Library is an open space for children, young people, and adults, where reading connects with science, technology, creativity, and conservation. The community can conduct research, study, access the Internet, participate in workshops, and discover new learning opportunities.
More than a library, we are a meeting place where knowledge strengthens the community and inspires new generations committed to the future of Galápagos.

1991
AGIPA Is Founded
The Association of Naturalist Guides of the Galápagos National Park (AGIPA) was founded as a nonprofit organization that later established and now manages the Library.
2005
The Library Is Founded
The Community Library is built and equipped in Puerto Ayora with the support of the Embassy of Japan in Ecuador and in partnership with the Municipality of Santa Cruz.
2018
A New Chapter
AGIPA resumes full administration of the Library and begins a new stage of recovery, strengthening, and renewal.
2019
Reopening
The Library reopens as a community space for education, reading, culture, technology, and connection.
2025
A Growing Impact
Cumulative impact through 2025: more than 19,500 visits, 10,300 participants, and 815 workshops and activities for the community.
2026
Looking Ahead
Strengthening and expanding educational, scientific, and conservation programs for the new generations of Galápagos.
